lessons

My goal as a teacher is to help my students make music a joyful part of their lives. Some come to music just because it seems fun, or not really knowing what they want from it. Some seek a new way of expressing themselves creatively, some want to push themselves to make music a career, and still others come in search of a different way of exploring who they are. Whatever your reasons for studying the flute, learning an instrument will likely be one of the most eye-opening, challenging, and enriching things you'll ever do.

I encourage my students to be passionate people who take risks. Yes, you'll drill scales and learn about playing in tune, and yes, you may even want to throw your flute every so often. (Please don't!) But we will also incorporate music that you love and find fun ways for you to achieve your personal goals.

With over a decade of teaching experience, I am able to tailor each student's lessons to his or her strengths, weaknesses, and expectations. We will draw on a variety of etudes, technical studies, and practice routines that I have developed over the years, and much time will be spent on solo repertoire and learning to play with spontaneity and awareness through duets.

If you would like more information about studying with me privately in Portland, Salem, or Forest Grove, please read through the Lesson Policies. I enjoy working with flutists of all ages and ability levels, so feel free to contact me if you'd like to try a lesson!
